Texas Revolution Flag to be Placed on Exhibit in Brownsville
BROWNSVILLE – A flag from the Texas Revolution has been fully restored and will be put on exhibit in Brownsville.
The 187-year-old flag could be the only remaining flag of this era.
"This flag is important in world history, national history and Texas history,” says Eugene Fernandez of the Brownsville Historical Association.
The Texas Revolution took place as Tejano and American settlers took up arms against Mexico, leading to the creation of the Republic of Texas and eventually the Battle of the Alamo.
Fernandez discovered the flag when interviewing a Brownsville pioneer family.
KRGV’s Rick Diaz explains a grant from the Daughters of the American Revolution helped to pay for the restoration of the flag, which took about a year and a half.
