Texas A&M Agrilife offering well water testing
The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service is offering well water testing to residents.
Susan Lopez Garza said she signed on to the well water testing program because making sure her well water is clean can be a lot of work.
“I am now widowed and a lot of that responsibility goes on my shoulders now,” Garza said. “So I need to know what I have, and what needs to be done."
Testers with the service came to her house in northern Starr County to collect water samples that were presented to local well owners on Wednesday.
“We screen for nitrates, we screen for arsenic, salinity and bacteria,” Joseph Romeo Ozuna with the Starr County location of the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service said.
Well water can be used for more than just drinking. So if the water is unhealthy, it could affect our food source.
Agrilife's free program happens once a year, but you can get your water tested anytime.
The price is based on what you get tested.
“I think as a landowner, we have that responsibility to know what we're living with,” Garza said. “And if there was something there, I would have the knowledge of knowing that was there and finding an answer for the problem."
No issues were found in Garza's water.
