Two men accused of multiple car thefts in Edinburg were arraigned on Thursday.

The suspects, 21-year-old Edgar Olguin and 19-year-old Jonathan Moreno, were each issued $30,000 bonds, but the amount could increase as seven more charges are pending against them.

Edinburg police say Olguin and Moreno were originally arrested on marijuana charges. Then a search led police to a stolen gun, and connected the suspects to an auto theft investigation.

Police say that was thanks to a pair of AirPods left in a vehicle. They were able to track the AirPods to a residence where the suspects were found.

"When possible, park in a well lit area. Always lock your vehicles. Never leave any valuables, such as purses, in plain view," Edinburg police spokesperson Roberto Torres said.

One Edinburg resident recently moved because he and his mother were victims of theft. He is now taking several security measures to ensure it doesn't happen again.

"For security, we put a padlock on the gate, you can see here. We make sure the cars are locked, and we park them so that they're in view of the cameras," Eduardo Palacios said.

Police said the auto theft investigation the suspects are connected to involve more than a dozen vehicle burglaries and several stolen cars.

A court date for the new charges has not been set yet.
