From popcorn to slushies, visitors had more than just treats to accompany them during their movie at Island Cinema. It offered a place for memories to be shared by many.

And after 25 years, the theater - located at South Padre Island - is closing its doors for good.

"I'm gonna miss this place,” Island Cinema owner Courtney Hayden said. “I’m gonna miss my employees, I'm gonna miss those folks that come in to have a good time for the afternoon or for the evening; it's the people that I'm gonna miss"

Since 1996, Island Cinema has been welcoming not just people from the island and from the Valley, as well as around the world.

Hayden said she will miss the theater and the variety of people she spoke to.

"It's been a fun place to be,” Hayden said.

Now she is ready to retire, hoping the new owners will keep the building as a cinema.

Island cinemas will remain open for one last showing set for Sunday, Sept. 5.
