SOUTH PADRE ISLAND – A South Padre Island beach access is closed after experiencing what officials call “winter beach” conditions.

The closure is at City Beach Access #23, Sapphire Circle.

Winter beach conditions is when beaches are eroded and flattened out in the winter giving the appearance of a lower beach.

This is due to cold fronts and storms that create waves that are larger and more energetic.

We'll let you know when conditions improve out at Beach Access 23.
