A giveaway for space heaters in Harlingen ended earlier than anticipated.

A total of 220 space heaters were to be distributed Wednesday at the Harlingen Convention Center to those aged 60 and older starting at 3 p.m.

According to the Area Agency on Aging, all the space heaters were distributed within half an hour after the event started.

Margarita Lopez, director of the Area Agency on Aging, said there will be other opportunities to give out space heaters.

“Should we have a higher demand, then we will allocate other funds and we will go ahead and provide another event,” Lopez said. “Or we will open a case if they are 60 years or older, and we will purchase those units for them."
