SOUTH PADRE ISLAND – A restaurant that most likely outlasted other independent businesses in South Padre Island celebrated four decades of serving hamburgers and cold beer.

Blackbeards' Restaurant started as a beach house-turned-restaurant in 1978.

Two weeks ago, employees and former employees reunited at the 40th-anniversary celebration.
