A South Padre Island resident was in Florida on Sunday to pass out supplies gathered in the Rio Grande Valley.

Travis Kayser is volunteering in Florida after it was hit by Hurricanes Helene and Milton.

“These people left everything they had, and the storm took it all from them,” Kayser said.

Piles of furniture and belongings line the streets of St. Pete Beach after Hurricane Milton swept through Florida.

“That's the thing that sticks with you, that was somebody’s life,” Kayser said. “You just feel emotionally stripped.”

Kayser and another volunteer from South Padre Island hauled a truck and trailer filled with generators, food, water and other supplies to help Florida residents.

“Anyone around there that needs any of the goods we will distribute them, we will help with physical labor,” Kayser said.

Kayser plans to drop off some of the necessities gathered in Bradenton before making his way to Venice Beach, where several of his family members live.

“Fortunately, my family and their properties were spared,” Kayser said.

While their properties were spared, Kayser’s aunt is still without power days after the storm.

Kayser said he hopes a generator and other supplies hauled with him will bring hope to his family and others still in need.
