MCALLEN - McAllen ISD, along with their rotary partners, raised funds and bought more than 1,200 pairs of shoes for needy students.
With the help of parent involvement specialists, the school district identified over 1,400 needy students.
Miguel Castillo, says his children were picked to receive new shoes.
"It's a good burden off my chest." said Castillo.
Mario and Donna Rodriguez with the Caritas Service Group said, "McAllen ISD they identify the children through each school in McAllen so each school is invited to this event from high school all the way down to elementary."
The Caritas Service Group hopes to do this each year in hopes of giving out more shoes to different communities.
