A sewage project in a San Benito neighborhood has been at a standstill since it began in November 2023.

Residents living nearby say city crews left a hole in their neighborhood that’s a major safety hazard for the community, and it’s producing a bad smell.

San Benito Mayor Ricardo Guerra said the equipment needed to clear out the water to replace old clay pipes broke.

The city is currently borrowing the truck they need from Rio Hondo, and it's getting called out citywide to other projects.

Guerra said the city is working to rent a truck from the city of Austin for $5,500 per week to complete the sewage project and other issues.
