Fireworks are a part of many New Year's celebrations.
Some pets and animals are afraid of the loud explosions. If they're outside, they might run away and end up in local animal shelters.
"We do see an increase in lost pets," Rio Grande Valley Humane Society Community Outreach Coordinator Donovun Hinojosa said. "It adds a strain, because it requires more resources and space, which are two of the things most shelters are limited on."
Experts recommend microchipping your pet in case they do get out. They say it helps to reconnect families quicker.
