Retirement ceremony held for Elsa K9 officer
He put in his time, and now it's time to relax.
The Elsa Police Department retired one of their K9 officers on Friday.
The now-retired officer Hetven was with the police department for eight years. He was actually Elsa's first drug dog.
His handler says K9 officer Hetven helped put a lot of people behind bars.
So what's next for the K9?
"I will be taking him home. So he is just going to be relaxing at home, not having to come to work and just enjoying family time," Elsa Police Department officer Michael Correa said.
Officer Hetven's replacement is joining the Elsa Police Department, as a donation from U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
They re in the process of training a new handler, which will cost about $2,500.
