Restraining order against Sullivan City extended
A judge extended a temporary restraining order against Sullivan City that barred the city from hiring an attorney for “special projects.”
The order was initially handed down on Monday, the day city commissioners were set to discuss hiring attorney Frank Garza for special projects.
The restraining order, filed by Sullivan City Mayor Alma Salinas and her running mates in the upcoming election, claims Garza's hiring was “unlawful.”
The city did not give clarification on what those special projects were.
During a Thursday hearing, a judge extended the order, pending the signature of the mayor or mayor pro-tem on Garza’s contract.
“What comes next is it's more of a technicality,” Sullivan City City Attorney Jay Peña said. “We just get the contract signed either by the mayor or the mayor pro-tem.”
Peña said the contract should be signed by Friday, Feb. 14.
