MERCEDES – Calls from concerned citizens about individuals posing as police officers began coming into the Mercedes Police Department last week.

Chief Dagoberto Chavez says he’s increased patrols around the city, but he wants residents to be wary of people trying to take advantage of others, especially during the coronavirus pandemic.

As a result of the reports, on Monday, Mercedes officers are sporting new uniforms and a new police patch.
