Victor Alejandro Godinez faced a judge Wednesday during a pre-trial hearing.

Godinez is accused of shooting DPS Trooper Moises Sanchez during a traffic stop in April 2019. Sanchez died four months later after several surgeries.

Godinez is charged with capital murder of a peace officer, and prosecutors are seeking the death penalty if he is convicted.

Since court proceedings started for Godinez, there have been at least 25 pre-trial hearings.

Wednesday's hearing saw Godinez's lawyer request a limit on part of the growing list of documents prosecutors may use at trial. 389th District Court Judge Letty Lopez denied that request, adding that the expected number of records will be manageable by the court.

Court records show Godinez is scheduled for another pre-trial hearing on September 15.
