LOS FRESNOS - Authorities are at the scene of a fatal auto pedestrian accident in Los Fresnos.

DPS confirmed a bicyclist died after being hit by a Jeep around 8 p.m. near Highway 100 past the rodeo grounds.

Los Fresnos Police Chief James Harris said the victim was an adult male, approximately in his early 50s. It’s unclear which direction the man was heading.

The female driver stayed at the scene to render aid. Her vehicle was towed from the area.

Harris said drivers need to be especially careful on that specific stretch of the road.

“We have a small community down here called Delmar Heights. Some people go from there to the stores in Los Fresnos and they travel back. So, it’s not uncommon to see people walking or riding their bikes in this area,” he said.

The investigation is ongoing.
