BROWNSVILLE – A plan is moving forward to take the taxes generated in a portion of Downtown Brownsville.

Instead of spending it citywide, reinvesting it in the area that needs revitalization.

The for a tax increment reinvestment zone, or TIRZ, is now past several planning stages with the Brownsville commission behind it.

The city says the money set aside can go to fixing the exterior of buildings, improving the infrastructure.
