Phone Line Hacking Targets Veterans under Choice Program
WESLACO – A newly developed program allowing veterans to seek care from private doctors is reportedly being hacked.
U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs officials said the Choice Program phone line is being mimicked.
CHANNEL 5 NEWS learned imposters are using a telephone number similar to the original number. Imposters tell veterans they are offering a $100 rebate if they provide a credit card.
Officials said it’s a red flag if the caller does not state they are part of the VA or Choice hotline.
The correct number for the VA program is 1-866-606-8198. The incorrect number imposters are using is 1-800-606-8198.
