MCALLEN – A 36-year-old is facing DWI and evading arrest charges after leading the Department of Public Safety on a chase in McAllen early Thursday morning.

Around 5:15 a.m. near 10^th Street and Pecan Boulevard, a state trooper attempted to stop Joe Omar Guerrero, of Pharr, for a traffic violation before he sped off.

The chase ended in a crash at a canal along 2^nd Street, near Wichita Avenue.

Guerrero was taken into custody.
