EDINBURG – The defense and prosecution rest in the trial of a Rio Grande Valley woman accused of killing an elderly man.
Monica Melissa Patterson is charged with capital murder in the 2015 death of Martin Knell.
The 96-year-old’s death was first ruled as death by natural causes, but authorities later found he died from asphyxiation.
Authorities said Patterson was working at Casa de Consuelo Comfort House in McAllen where Knell was being cared for.
Patterson was listed as a beneficiary of Knell’s estate.
Closing arguments are set for Wednesday.
