Passport Fairs Coming to the Valley
WESLACO – The United States Postal Service will be holding passport fairs in the Rio Grande Valley starting this weekend.
Two fairs will be taking place Saturday, April 14. The Mission and Harlingen post offices will start receiving customers at 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Passports for adults must be paid by a $110 check or money order made payable to The U.S. State Department and a $35 execution fee made payable to Postmaster, and fees for children under 16 are $80 and $35, respectively.
USPS asks applicants to provide the following information to process passports:
- Proof of U.S. citizenship, either a certified birth certificate issued by the city, county or state; naturalization certificate (a hospital-issued birth certificate alone is not acceptable); consular report of birth abroad; certificate of citizenship or a previous passport
- A clear photocopy of proof of U.S. citizenship to be presented at the time of passport acceptance. If the document is two-sided, then a photocopy of the front and back must be provided
- Proof of identity, either a previous U.S. passport or passport card; certificate of naturalization with identifiable photo attached; certificate of citizenship with identifiable photo attached; valid driver’s license (not temporary or learner’s permit); official U.S. military or military depended ID; government employee ID (federal, state, municipal, county) or current valid foreign passport
- A clear photocopy of their proof of identity to be presented at the time of passport acceptance. If the document is two-sided, then a photocopy of the front and back must be provided
- Applicant’s recent color passport photograph, two-by-two inch in size. The office can provide the passport photo for a fee of $15
If you wish to expedite the process you can pay a $60 fee per application in addition to the required fees mentioned above.
USPS asks all applicants to appear in person. Minors under the age of 16 must appear with both parents. If one parent is not available, a notarized authorization from the absent parent is required.
Although appointments are not required on fair days, applicants will be served on a first-come, first-serve basis.
