Pace Girls Soccer Sprints Ahead
BROWNSVILLE - The Viqueens are having a great season. The team is off to a 17-1 start with 61 goals scored already. Defense has has been just as solid, allowing only eight goals.
"Right now we have a very solid defense," says head coach Jesus Villareal. "We've been interchanging players on defense and our bench is just as strong that have been starting. So pretty much we have a complete team."
Forward Kryssie Rivera recently became the second girls player in Brownsville history to reach the 100 career goals.
"That was great," says Rivera. "I couldn't do it without my teammates. Without them I don't think I would have crossed 100 goals. I give them a lot of credit."
Villareal says Rivera is tough to game plan against for opposing teams.
"Coaches have to make a decision," says Villareal, "Whether they're going to have to cover her up or they're going to have to cover other players we have on the sides and in the center as well."
The Viqueens are 4-0 in district play. One of their goals is to win the district title, something they haven't accomplished with Coach Villareal.
"We definitely want to win district because we haven't been able to do that in years," says senior midfielder Alma Perez.
The Viqueens next district game is against Edcouch-Elsa on February 9th.
