SOUTH PADRE ISLAND – Car burglaries are on the rise at South Padre Island.
A Cameron County park ranger tells CHANNEL 5 NEWS due to the burglaries they have also increased patrols.
The most recent call was Wednesday; luckily there was a witness in the case who gave a description of the male suspect.
The suspect was apprehended and taken into custody.
The man is accused of taking everything from inside the vehicle.
“He took the ice chest, their food, their wallets, their phones; whatever they had in the car he took,” said Horacio Zamora, the chief park ranger.
Zamora wants beachgoers to take the necessary steps to prevent thieves from breaking into their vehicles.
