Officers at the Hidalgo bridge caught a man with meth lollipops on Saturday, according to the criminal complaint against him.

At about 1:50 a.m. on Saturday, a bus arrived at the bridge between Reynosa and Hidalgo.

An observant U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer noticed a passenger named Jonathan Emmanuel Sanchez was carrying strange-looking lollipops.

"These commercially sealed bags were labeled as lollipops, however contained crystal like pieces instead," according to the criminal complaint.

The bag of lollipops, which weighed nearly 23 pounds, tested positive for methamphetamine.

Sanchez is charged with possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and importing methamphetamine.

Court records don't list an attorney for Sanchez, who remained in federal custody Monday and couldn't be reached for comment.
