A non-profit organization is aiming to assist the community with cooling where they live.

The Silver Ribbon Community Partners Board will be giving away fans on Wednesday, Aug. 7, from 9 a.m. through 4 p.m., or while supplies last.

The giveaway will be held at 1919 Austin Ave., according to a news release.

“The beat the heat event is an opportunity for the elderly & disabled adults of the RGV community to receive a free fan, to aid them in staying cool during these hot summer months,” the news release stated.

The supply of fans was provided by the United Way of South Texas Community Impact Grant, which funded the purchase of fans.

Each of the recipients will be asked to show a valid ID and take part in a brief survey being conducted by UTRGV Social Work student interns.

No curbside service will be available, you will have to park and go inside the building to pick up your fan. There will be a limit of one fan per household, the release added.
