DONNA – A new temporary detention center is now open in Donna. The center gives immigration officers room to process hundreds, as the surge of people crossing the border illegally continues.
The DHS reported new records of families arriving from Central America. The facility in Donna is designated to help with the process and house unaccompanied children and family units.
The agency said there is space for up to 500 people.
The center is serving as a temporary stay, with beds and bathing facilities.
There is no word right now on what kind of traffic they’re getting. The operations officially started on Saturday and will continue as needed.
