New grant helping revitalize Mercedes businesses
Small businesses in Mercedes are getting help standing out, and it starts with a sign.
The Mercedes Economic Development Corporation set aside about $70,000 to help local shops get new illuminated signs, with the goal of drawing more attention to downtown businesses and boosting the local economy.
Any business in Mercedes with a certificate of occupancy can apply.
"Mom-and-pop shops always struggle; we want to do our part to make sure that they're successful here in Mercedes, and bringing them just a little bit of attention with their illuminated light will bring that success to them," Mercedes EDC Board President Marcos J. Garcia IV said.
The program funds about 15 signs a year. There is no deadline, and approval takes about three months. Click here for the application form.
