MERCEDES – Fire crews are responding to a brush fire in Mercedes between Mile 3 and Mile 4.

Mercedes firefighters say the strong wind is a factor in battling the flames. They’re getting assistance from Donna and Weslaco fire departments.

A large portion of a palm tree farm in the area has already burned.

Officials say the fire has been contained and are monitoring hotspots.

No word on what possibly started the fire.
