Mistrial Declared in 1995 Double Murder Case
BROWNSVILLE – A judge declared a mistrial for a Brownsville man accused in a 1995 double murder.
According to court administrators in the 138th state district court, the trial for Felix Ray Abundez was reset for June 5.
The jury deliberated for more than two days without reaching a verdict.
Abundez is accused in the deaths of 25-year-old Dean Martinez and 19-year-old Adan Montes.
The case had gone cold.
It was reopened after Brownsville police launched a cold case unit in 2015. Investigators are looking into about 40 unsolved cases including 14 other murders.
