Mission man facing murder charge, accused of killing brother on Christmas Day
A 25-year-old Mission man is now facing a murder charge in connection to the fatal assault of his brother that occurred on Christmas Day, according to the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies with the sheriff’s office responded to Mission Regional Medical Center Sunday afternoon in reference to a “deceased” male subject who had injuries consistent with an assault, according to a news release.
Investigators identified Luis Matilde Enrique Cruz as the suspect and arrested him on a charge of aggravated assault, the release stated.
Investigators received preliminary autopsy results that led to Cruz’s charge to be upgraded to murder, the sheriff’s office announced Wednesday.
“Murder charges will be filed on the victim’s brother who provided a statement he assaulted his brother,” Hidalgo County Sheriff Eddie Guerra said in a social media post.
Those with any additional information regarding the investigation are urged to contact the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office at 956-383-8114.
