REYNOSA, Mex. - Videos of a Mexican Navy helicopter in Reynosa is circulating on social media. A security expert said it's a new tactic used by the Mexican military to combat organized crime.

The Mexican Navy continues to go after a Gulf Cartel leader in Reynosa. 

The Tamaulipas government confirmed Friday there were multiple shootouts, blockades and fires where more than a dozen people died. There was no mention of helicopters.

CHANNEL 5 NEWS reached out to Grupo Coordinacion Tamaulipas, the security department of the state. They said the Mexican Navy was in charge. 

We described the videos to them. But in an email response they later said they had no information on the incident.

We called the governor but there was no response.

People at the Hidalgo Bridge said they heard a helicopter firing. They said they heard or saw it Friday morning near the colonias, Las Cumbres and Las Fuentes. The colonias are located southwest of the Hidalgo International Bridge.

We reached to Art Fontes, a security consultant and president of Fontes International Solutions. He said he did some research.

"The aircraft that was used was the M1," he said.

The helicopter used by the Navy is well armed, Fontes added.

"It also has a minigun, a gatling machine gun mounted on the side of the aircraft," he said. "The cartels are very violent and they have these weapons and they have the ways to combat the threat."

Signs of confrontations continued through the weekend. Fontes said the military is going after "El Toro", the leader of the Gulf Cartel in Reynosa.
