The Hidalgo County Fire Marshal said the fire that burned a warehouse in Mercedes storing 14,000 gallons of diesel was accidental.

Fire crews from multiple cities responded to the fire that started Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. near Gonzalez Avenue and Rancho Tuluca Road.

According to Hidalgo County Fire Marshal Homero Garza, the first was caused by a man attempting to fix a leak on a diesel tank with a torch.

The fire was fully extinguished late Tuesday night, and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality said the air quality in the area is safe.

Channel 5 News learned on Wednesday that one man was treated for smoke inhalation at the scene. He was later released.
