A Mercedes man will spend the rest of his life in prison after a Hidalgo County jury found him guilty of capital murder.
Ramiro Garcia Lopez, 51, was found guilty last week in the 2016 death of Gilberto Garces, according to a news release. A district court judge sentenced Lopez to prison without the possibility of parole.
Lopez was accused of killing Garces at a canal bank in Mercedes after beating the victim at his place of business, the news release stated.
The case was prosecuted by the Hidalgo County felony division, with assistance from the county crime victims unit and the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office.
