Melissa Lucio's family reacts after Texas Court of Criminal Appeals halts execution
Just two days before Melissa Lucio was to be put to death, the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals on Monday halted her execution.
Hugs were shared and tears were shed as Lucio’s mother and sisters received the news inside their Harlingen home.
Hundreds of miles away in Gatesville, Lucio’s sons thanked state representatives for their support.

Lucio was convicted of her 2-year-old daughter's death in 2008, but in the past few months, questions have been raised about the trial.
Lucio’s attorneys say new evidence will prove that Mariah’s death wasn't from abuse, but instead from a fall.
One of Lucio’s lawyers, Tivon Schardl, said a proceeding will determine where the case goes from here.
"And that court will then make a recommendation to the Court of Criminal Appeals, who will ultimately decide whether Melissa should get a new trial," Schardl said.
Cameron County District Attorney Luis Saenz released a statement after the decision was announced, saying in part he, “welcomes the opportunity to prosecute this case in the courtroom.”
Lucio herself issued a statement that said in part, "I am grateful the court has given me the chance to live and prove my innocence. Mariah is in my heart today and always."
