Third grade students at Garza Elementary School in McAllen are producing their own news and podcasts for the first time ever.
And they're producing news in both English and Spanish.
Third grade teacher Thelma Davila introduced this curriculum to her students at the beginning of the school year.
Davila says her bilingual students work on their scripts in Spanish, while the others work in English.
"Even their behavior has improved a lot. They've learned to use that energy more towards being creative and using the technology that it takes to make these videos," Davila said.
Some of the students' duties in the newsroom include writing scripts based on a topic their teacher assigns them, recording their voices and speaking in front of a camera.
