McAllen man sentenced to 45 months in prison for healthcare fraud
The convicted owner of a Valley home health company was sentenced to 45 months in prison after pleading guilty to health care fraud, according to a Thursday news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Miguel Angel Contreras, 44, admitted to submitting over $700,000 in false and fraudulent reimbursement claims to Medicare that his company — Sambritt Home Health LLC — did not provide.
Medicare ended up paying over $1 million in reimbursements to the McAllen man, the news release stated.
Contreras pleaded guilty to a charge of conspiracy to commit health care fraud in April 2016.
As part of his punishment, Contreras must pay more than $1 million in restitution.
