McAllen convenience store drawing in customers eager to win Mega Millions jackpot
A McAllen convenience store that’s known for being lucky is seeing people lining up to buy lottery tickets as the Mega Millions jackpot continues to not have a winner.
The Mega Millions frenzy caused a busy day at the Town and Country store in McAllen.
“I don't really buy lottery tickets, but I was like, ‘Let me go and try my luck,’" Viviana Ramirez said.
More than 200 people have showed up to buy lotto tickets within two hours of the store opening on Thursday.
"For our Mega Millions, everyone is trying to win,” employee Itzel Garcia said. “So they’re coming to buy their lucky numbers."
One woman drove all the way from Dallas just to buy tickets at the store.
“Every time I come over here, I win something,” Anjilita Espinoza said. “I came about two years ago, and I got something, so it's good."
Garcia said she's witnessed a few lucky winners.
"Last year, someone won $250,000,” Garcia recalled. “And in a scratch-off, we had several $5,000, $10,000 winners.”
The odds of one person winning the $1.1 billion jackpot is about one in 302 million. Despite the high odds, the chance to become a billionaire is too much to pass up for some.
“I think someone's going to win it this time, hopefully it will be me," Espinoza said.
