The McAllen international Airport had its one-millionth passenger Tuesday as the airport continues to see record-breaking growth and new non-stop destinations, according to a news release.

The airport’s millionth flyer was honored Tuesday as they arrived at the airport. The traveler was gifted year-round tickets to all of McAllen’s major festivals, and special merchandise and refreshments.

The news release credited the airport’s new non-stop destinations to Austin, Cancun, Mexico City, and Tampa-St. Petersburg for the record.

According to the news release, the McAllen International Airport saw a 25% increase in year-over-year traffic, and was granted $7.4 million in federal funding to improve and expand the airport.

“We are continuously improving, working on renovations, expansion and have grown to offer nonstop flights to Dallas, Houston, Las Vegas, Orlando, Tampa, Los Angeles, Cancun, Mexico City and Austin,” Aviation Director Jeremy Santoscoy stated in the news release. “We are proud to serve our customers, and work never stops as we study and search for new travel opportunities for our great region.”
