EDINBURG – A man charged in a deadly stabbing case out of Donna is facing more charges.

Lenin Montalvo Gonzalez is one of three men charged in a deadly stabbing from earlier this year.

Javier Olvera Jr., 22, was found stabbed with multiple wounds around 10:00 p.m. on Jan. 15. His body was located near the 6000 block of Victoria Road.

He was transported to the hospital, but later died from his injuries. Augustin Mendoza and Francisco Hernandez are two other men charged with Olvera Jr.’s death.

Investigators with the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office believe an argument over money led to the stabbing.

Gonzalez is now charged with a second case. He pleaded not guilty to having a deadly weapon in prison, that’s a third degree felony.

He faces a minimum of two years and a max of 10 years in jail for that crime, if convicted.

Gonzalez said he suffers from bipolar and schizophrenia. He pointed to that as a cause for his irrational and aggressive behavior in solitary confinement.

Gonzalez’s attorney submitted paperwork on Wednesday to have him undergo a psych evaluation.

Gonzalez is due back in court early August for a pretrial and trial hearing.
