LOS FRESNOS – A Los Fresnos police officer is back on the job just days after he opened fire on a suspect during a domestic violence call.

The officer was identified as a 5-year police force veteran.

City manager Mark Milum confirmed he is back on patrol effective Thursday. The officer was placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation to determine if his actions, opening fire on a man, were justified.

The officer shot at a 53-year-old man as he and two other officers responded to a domestic violence dispute on Monday.

He didn’t hit the man because he was running backwards and didn’t get a clear shot, according to Milum. The man was finally tazed before being arrested.

The man was identified as Alberto Camarillo-Sanchez. According to authorities, he did self-inflict cut marks on his neck with a knife but they were very superficial and didn’t require hospitalization.

The city manager said Camarillo-Sanchez was yelling “Kill me” at the police during the incident.

He was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, aggravated assault on a peace officer and making terroristic threats. He was given a bond of $11,500.

The city manager said the investigation is complete.
