Local Shelters, Volunteers Overwhelmed amid Immigration Surge
BROWNSVILLE – Shelter resources across the Rio Grande Valley are stretched thin as immigrants keep making their way into the country.
So far, nearly 500,000 people have crossed the southern border this year; it’s presenting problems for more than just law enforcement.
Volunteer groups taking care of migrants say they, too, are overwhelmed by the numbers they're trying to serve.
Shelter directors are searching for any help they can get.
