A group of 50 students with the La Joya Independent School District were rewarded for their perfect attendance.
The students were given $100 dollar gift cards by Academy Sports and Outdoors for having perfect attendance and passing grades for the first three weeks of the school year.
Some students said they plan to use the cash to make the school day a little easier.
“With the gift card, I plan on buying a duffle bag actually for JROTC so I can be able to carry all my equipment without hurting my hands,” Juarez-Lincoln High School senior Maritza Caldera said.
The gift card awards were part of Academy's effort to celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month.
