La Joya ISD employee arrested following internal affairs investigation identified
An employee with the La Joya Independent School District was released from jail Friday following her arrest on a charge of tampering with a government school record, jail records show.
La Joya ISD attorney Jerry Muñoz confirmed that Laura Rodriguez, the clerk for the district’s transportation department, was arrested Thursday by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The district previously said Rodriguez was placed on administrative leave following an internal affairs investigation.

On Friday, Muñoz said DPS’ investigation was related to the inspection certificates of 58 school buses, and couldn’t comment in the investigation because it doesn’t belong to the district.
“The employee got themselves in a situation with a time crunch as a new school year was approaching, and made some decisions,” Muñoz said. “Generally speaking, the incident had involved 58 school buses and their safety inspection certificates.”
The district previously announced two employees were arrested in connection with the investigation. The district later clarified that one of the employees — La Joya ISD assistant transportation director Jose Luz Alaniz — was released after being cleared of any wrongdoing.
