Jury listens to state evidence in trial of Harlingen man accused of killing roommate
New testimony was heard Wednesday in the murder trial of a Harlingen man accused in the Feb. 2020 shooting death of his former roommate.
Prosecutors are trying to prove the defendant — Anthony Eliff — murdered Guillero Garcia.
Eliff’s defense team argued in court the shooting was in self-defense.
On the second day of the trial, jurors only heard from one witness — former Harlingen police investigator Joel Yanes — the lead police detective in the case.

During his testimony, jurors heard Eliff's second police interrogation while he was in county jail, where he admitted to shooting Garcia.
In the interrogation video, police also brought up Elyn Loera, Eliff’s girlfriend who went missing in 2019. Her remains were found after Garcia’s death.
Eliff faces a separate murder trial connected to Loera's death.
