'It's transformative': UTRGV School of Medicine opens Institute of Neuroscience
The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley is expanding its medical services across the Valley and beyond.
On Tuesday, the UTRGV School of Medicine opened its brand new Institution of Neuroscience that features a neurological clinic for patients seeking treatment and a research facility.
Chief Officer for the UT Health RGV, Dr. Michael R. Dobbs, says the new institute will provide advanced neurological care for patients and help attract top neurology providers from across the country.
"Will treat epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, help people to recover from stroke, Parkinson's disease," Dobbs said. "There are so many neurological problems it will be able to manage here."
The institute will serve as the first Alzheimer's center in Texas to treat the disease and research early detection and possible prevention.
"Everything that you need to study the brain is here, and this institute is about brain health," UTRGV President Guy Bailey said. "This is the epicenter for studying that right here."
