Hundreds Gathered at Vigil for Victims of El Paso Shooting
EL PASO- Hundreds of people gathered for a vigil at a park near a Walmart in El Paso.
20 people were killed and 26 others were injured when a gunman opened fire inside the shopping center Saturday afternoon.
CHANNEL 5 NEWS traveled to El Paso and spoke to a priest who was called to the hospital where the victims were taken.
Father Pablo Matta described utter disbelief in the face of senseless violence that chose to descend upon the border city.
“What I saw most on their faces was they could not believe this was going on. Actually, that they had called a priest. Usually that means that it’s serious or that these individuals, their family members were not going to live through the night.”
The identities of the victims are slowly being released. PSJA ISD confirmed one of the victims attended PSJA High school.
Local and federal authorities in El Paso are concerned other victims are undocumented residents and are not receiving medical treatment because they are afraid.
Authorities tells us they are encouraging everyone to seek help if needed and to visit a reunification center if their loved one is still unaccounted for.
