Haunted house in Progreso returns after three-year closure
A haunted house in Progreso reopened Friday after the COVID-19 pandemic caused it to close in 2020.
The grand reopening for Toluca Ranch was held on Friday the 13th, and it’s not for the faint of heart.
Julie Vera and her family are the masterminds behind it all.
According to Vera, the location used to be a real home that had been abandoned for 15 years before her family bought it in 2013 and turned it into a haunted house the following year.
The haunted house is a two-floor experience with more than 10 rooms.
Vera says Toluca Ranch is inspired by the McKamy Manor Haunted House in Tennessee, and the 27-minute-long tour is an intense, interactive experience where the actors can touch you, separate you from your group, and shock you.
“We are very excited,” Vera said about Toluca Ranch’s return. “We haven't opened in three years, and we have been with creative with ideas; and this year it's going to be carnival theme."
A portion of ticket sales will go toward the non-profit RGV Helping Hands to help repair homes for disabled and elderly individuals, as well as veterans.
Tickets can be purchased online.
