Solis was an 8th grade student at Vernon Middle School.
The district is offering counseling services to students during this tough time
“[There’s] a lot of tears, a lot of confusion here at Vernon Middle School,” Martinez said. “These kids are young. They're going through a lot right now, they don't understand it, so we want to make sure that they're all comforted."
The school is having their 8th grade promotion this week to commemorate the students moving on to the next grade level.
The district said Solis would have been a part of it.
The campus’ National Junior Honor Society is hosting a monetary donation drive to benefit Solis’ family.
Solis was also a track athlete and was well known by her teachers.

“All of those teachers and staff that knew her — and administrators, even down to the custodial staff — who would see her everyday are going through a lot right now,” Martinez said. “They just remember her as a very joyful young lady."
Solis’ family says the teen would have had her quinceañera this year.
The donation drive will begin on Wednesday, May 22 during the school’s pick-up and drop off times, and will continue on Thursday, May 23.
Visitation for Solis is set for Wednesday, May 22 from 2 p.m. through 9 p.m. at the Tomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito with a prayer service set for 7 p.m.
