Those shopping in Harlingen can expect to see some new storefronts.

The businesses are the same, but they’re getting an updated look with help from the city.

According to the Harlingen Economic Development Corporation, 31 businesses have each received up to $10,000 in matched costs to upgrade and enhance their storefronts thanks to the Revitalize Harlingen program.

“This grant offers support to small businesses, as well as building owners, to help improve their facades,” Harlingen EDC CEO Orlando Campos said.

According to Campos, since the program started three years ago, the number of businesses they're able to help has increased. They've also opened applications to include downtown businesses.

“We did increase the funding a little bit to help meet the growing demands of the community,” Campos said. “We've also partnered up with downtown Harlingen to try and target more of the businesses, as well as buildings that are located within the downtown district."

Applications are open now for the Revitalize Harlingen grant until the end of September 2026, or until funds run out.
