Free Healthcare Services Offered to Low-Income Valley Residents
BROWNSVILLE – The Good Neighbor Settlement House in downtown Brownsville is offering free healthcare for those who need it.
Nurse practitioner Pedro Mercado said he sees at least 15 patients every Tuesday afternoon. He said majority of the people he sees have never had preventative healthcare.
Mercado said basic services are provided. If a patient needs specialized care, they’re usually referred there so they can be treated.
“We have caught people with diabetes. If it wasn’t for the clinic, those three people would have never known they were diabetics,” he said.
Mercado said they are also working with two pharmacies to provide low-cost medications.
The clinic opened several months ago to provide services for those without insurance.
The clinic opens at 1 p.m. on Tuesdays.
